After years of efforts from neighborhood biking enthusiasts and over a year’s worth of construction, the Metropolitan Branch Trail segment from Franklin Avenue to New York Avenue Bridge finally officially opens tomorrow.
Let’s build a large crowd for the ribbon-cutting ceremony which will include Mayor Fenty leading the crowd down the Trail to the New York Avenue Metro station.

There will be another, perhaps even larger, celebration of the opening of this segment June 5th by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. Details of this will be announced later.
Did you go? Was it well attended?
Hi Everyone,
I’m having trouble figuring out how to post on this listserv, but I wanted to let everyone on the listserv know that this Saturday, June 5th the Metropolitan Branch Trail is going to be having it’s grand opening with lots of activities. One of the activities is the building of an Urban Garden for DC Prep Academy where Edgewood meets the trail. I’m running the endeavor and I would love to have volunteers from the community to help transport soil, build rows and plant. The plan is to build 800 sq feet worth or row space for growing more local food in Edgewood with young people.
If you are interested, it will be from 9am-2pm (We will probably finish well before that!) And please email me so that I can get a list of volunteers. Cheers everyone.
